The Mural Slivers project serves as a poignant exploration of embracing change and yielding to the inexorable march of time. Murals, although endowed with beauty, inspiration, and profound impact, inherently possess a transitory nature. Weathering elements and acts of vandalism can leave their mark, yet it is often the advance of progress, symbolized by new developments, that seals the fate of these artistic expressions. Shifting ownership, evolving tastes and the burgeoning growth of a city can sometimes eclipse the aesthetic value of murals in a neighborhood or streetscape. While many mural walls succumb to layers of paint, a select few metamorphose into concealed treasures nestled in overlooked crevices and corners.
Mural Slivers endeavors to immortalize the dwindling fragments of several murals in St. Petersburg, Florida, eclipsed or slated for concealment by the march of development – be it in the form of condos, apartments, banks, or other commercial ventures. Originating from renowned SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festivals and other projects, these murals, now obscured by new construction and development, offer glimpses into their vibrant past lives. These remnants, bursting with color, stand as a testament to past creativity and a poignant reminder of the ephemeral nature of mural art. Simultaneously, the project looks ahead to a future brimming with new opportunities, paying a deserving tribute to the artists who breathed life into these murals.
All pieces are on acrylic either 16″ x 20″ or 12″ x 16″ except for Starry Eyed which is on canvas 12″ x 20″. Ways to purchase the art!
